About

IED's Story

The IED Center was established in 2018 by Mariam Mohamud Bulle, who drew inspiration from her personal journey and unwavering commitment to enhancing early childhood education. Mariam's own experience of inadequate access to quality early childhood education during her formative years, amidst the turmoil of civil war in her country, deeply influenced her perspective and kindled a profound desire for positive change. Recognizing the pressing need for early childhood education in Somalia, she pursued a Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization in this field. Returning to her hometown of Mogadishu, Mariam diligently assessed the state of early childhood education. She dedicated herself to volunteering in local kindergartens, aiming to grasp the specific needs of the community. Furthermore, she forged connections with compassionate professionals such as social workers, psychologists, educators, and mental health advocates who shared her vision of shaping the crucial early years of a child's life. Together, they established and continue to operate the IED Center.

We fully recognize the critical significance of the early years in a child’s overall development. We firmly believe that each and every Somali child deserves the best possible start in life. As an organization, we are steadfastly committed to turning this belief into a reality for all.

To achieve this ambitious goal, our focus lies in delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences in the field of early childhood education. We equip teachers with the necessary skills and knowledge required to create effective and engaging learning environments for young children. By investing in their professional development, we ensure that they can unlock the full potential of every child under their care.

Moreover, we are acutely aware of the vital role played by supportive environments in a child’s growth. We work tirelessly to design safe, inclusive, and stimulating spaces that encourage exploration, creativity, and social interaction. These thoughtfully crafted environments enable children to thrive and reach their maximum potential.

In addition to our work within classrooms, we strongly believe in the transformative power of involving parents, families, and communities in our initiatives. Their active participation and support are essential for promoting children’s learning and development. Furthermore, we tirelessly advocate for policies and regulations that endorse high-quality early childhood education, while also promoting effective governance and leadership. By fostering robust partnerships and encouraging shared responsibility, we create a comprehensive ecosystem that nurtures and uplifts every child in our care.
